FOMEN

Focus on Men

FOMEN was a 2-year project that began in September 2019 and ran until December 2021, focusing on gender sensitivity and prevention of gender-based violence following intersectional approaches. Men with international family history (migrants and refugees) were reached through participatory intervention and capacity building programs. Experts from six countries developed quality standards and tools for gender sensitive and violence-prevention programmes, based on work with men with international family history. Furthermore, national workshops were be held with professionals on the themes of Gender/ Masculinity/ Diversity, Migration and Intercultural Education,  and Violence Prevention. These workshops provided professionals with knowledge, skills and competences in working with male migrants and refugees in a gender sensitive and violence preventive way. Finally, the results of these workshops were used to further the project objectives.

"The project addressed a target group that is not often focus of actions. It can have relevant added value on social inclusion and prevention of gender-based violence. Moreover, the training is a useful tool to develop necessary skills and knowledge of professionals working with migrants." - European Commission evaluation feedback
